Horticulture villages

A total 1,500 horticulture villages will be set up in the Western,
North Western and Central Provinces under the Mahinda Chinthanaya. With
that 30,000 jobs will be created in the rural and suburban areas. Sri
Lanka will be recognized for the quality production centres for
horticulture products in the world with this project.
In cut flower production, high quality new hybrid varieties imported
from overseas will be modernized with tissue culture apparatus. Due to
this project, revenue from the export of cut flowers and foliage will
increase significantly. Bingiriya Agri-Export Zone in the Kurunegala
District was the first Agri-Export Zone established in the country in
2009. |
