Youth hospitalised after police assault

A youth was hospitalized after being brutally assaulted by a policeman. The victim is being treated at the Horana Base Hospital.

Sahan Dilhara, 19, said he was assaulted by an officer of Anguruwatota Police.

Dilhara's mother said two policemen stopped her son at the Bellapitiya Junction in Horana when he was returning home and asked him to produce his National Identity Card.

After her son produced his NIC, a police officer had slapped him damaging his ear-drum.

The victim is a resident of Horana-Kandana.

The youth was admitted to the Horana base hospital with severe damage to his ear.

Anguruwathota Police are investigating.
