Central Province reservoirs at spill level

Some reservoirs in Central Province including Victoria, Kothmale and Castlereigh are at spill level as a result of the heavy rains experienced.

The main sluice gate of the Castlereigh reservoir that controls the water level in the reservoir has been kept open for the past six days as the water level has increased tremendously during the past week. Engineers at the reservoir said that this is the first time in the history that the sluice gates have been kept open for six days.

The Victoria reservoir also began to overflow yesterday together with other cluster reservoirs in the western slopes of the Central Province, Canyon, Luxapana and Wimalasurendra. Reservoir engineers warned people living near the banks of the Kelani river to be cautious as the water level could see an unexpected rise with the flow of water coming from the Central Province reservoirs.
