'Jayoda, a Sri Lankan Heritage' is the first magazine to reach Sri
Lankan readership in Australia, according to sources. There are many
Sinhala newspapers for the Sri Lankan community living in Australia but
there was no Sinhala magazine, until Jayoda was published.
The magazine was launched at a ceremony held in La Trobe University,
Melbourne, recently.
Jayoda is a bi-monthly Sinhala magazine edited in Sri Lanka and sent
to Australia. It is available free of charge and published with the
funds through advertisements. The magazine contains many features
written by prominent Sri Lankan journalists and they cater to
readerships from all walks of life including English-speaking Sri Lankan
readers born in Australia.
Jayoda is published by Captain Athil Gunasekara and Dr. Tharanga
Gunasekara. The website is www.jayoda.com.au. The magazine is edited by
Nilar N. Cassim, a reputed journalist, lyricist and artiste in Sri
Lanka.
The main objective of publishing this magazine is to educate the Sri
Lankan community living in Australia on latest developments in Sri Lanka
and the world. It also encourages the new generation of the Sri Lankan
community to learn Sinhala language (at least as a second language) and
Sri Lankan culture. Jayoda is printed using the latest technology.
