Jayawardene and Dilshan reprimanded

Sri Lanka’s two former captains Mahela Jayawardene and Tillakaratne
Dilshan were both reprimanded after pleading guilty for breaching Level
1 l the ICC Code of Conduct for constant appealing during the New -
Zealand – Sri Lanka group ‘A’ game at the Sophia Garden in Cardiff on
Sunday.
In a game that went to the wire, New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by one
wicket with over to spare. Both players had breached Article 2.1.5 of
the ICC Code of Conduct for Players, and Player Support personnel which
relates to ‘excessive appealing during an international match’.
The charges was laid by on-field umpires Bruce Oxenford and Rod
Tucker and third umpire Ian Gould and 4th umpire Steve Davis all from
the Emirates ICC Panel of Elite Umpires.
Dilshan and Jayawardene were charged for excessive and prolonged
appealing during the keenly contested New Zealand and Sri Lanka game on
Sunday.
Both players pleaded guilty to the chare and as such under the
provisions of the code, the matter was determined by Andrew Pycroff of
the Emirates Elite Panel of Match Referees and so there was nom
requirement for a full inquiry.
Match Referee Pycrof later said: ‘irrespective of the outcome of an
umpire’s decision, players are not entitled to prolonged appeals as
these could be construed as pressuring the umpires.
Both the players accepted their mistake and apologised for theirm
mistake and apologized for their actions.
All Level on breaches carry a minimal penalty of an official
reprimand and a minimal penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee.
