Police Log

Man, woman arrested with heroin

A man and a woman were arrested by the Wellawatte and Maharagama Police with 9.890 grammes of heroin in their possession on Sunday.

The woman, aged 23, was arrested with 4.100 grammes of heroin at Swarna Road in Wellawatte while the other suspect was arrested in Pannipitiya with 5.790 grammes of heroin. They were produced in Aluthkade and Gangodawila magistrate courts yesterday.

Suspect nabbed with illicit liquor

The Padukka Police on the same day arrested a suspect with 759 litres of ' goda ' in his possession in Padukka. The suspect, a resident of Millewa was produced in Awissawella magistrate court yesterday.

Wanted suspect arrested

The Tangalle crime investigation branch on Sunday night arrested two suspects wanted in connection with an incident where they had allegedly snatched Rs. 320,000 and a mobile phone from a woman in Tissamaharama on February 15. The Police seized the stolen mobile phone from their possession. They were produced in Tangalle magistrate court yesterday.

Empty bottles turn to timber

The Moratumulla Police on Sunday arrested a driver with a stock of 56 illegally felled satin wood logs while he was transporting it in a lorry at Modara. Acting on information received the Police stopped the lorry on Modara bridge.

The suspect had attempted to deceive Police pretending to be transporting empty bottles. The suspect, a resident of Middeniya was produced before Moratuwa magistrate court yesterday.

Arrested with illicit liquor

The STF officers on Sunday arrested three suspects with 410 bottles of illicit liquor in their possession in Avissawella, Ambalangoda and Badulla.

They also seized other implements they used in the illegal act. They were handed over to respective Police stations for legal action.

Meanwhile, the STF officers attached to Tangalle and Ambalantota on the same day arrested two suspects for possessing a stock of toddy without permit in Karamatiya and Pilassa.

The STF seized 250 bottles of toddy from their possession. Middeniya and Ambalantota Police have taken over investigations.

Illegally felled timber seized

STF seized a stock of illegally felled Palu, Kumbuk, Satinwood and Eucalyptus grandis logs and apprehended seven suspects for possessing the timber stock in several places on Sunday.

The first suspect was arrested in Killinochchi with logs and planks of illegally felled Palu and tools he used in the act.

In Kelepuliyankulama two suspects were arrested with 17 logs of Kumbuk together with chain saws and other tools.

The other four suspects were caught by the STF officers attached to Periyamadu camp with 46 satinwood logs.

A lorry they used to transport the illegally felled timber and other tools were also seized. Further investigations are being carried out by the relevant Police stations.
