Homagama District Judge enlarged on bail

Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya yesterday enlarged on bail Homagama District Judge Sunil Abeysinghe who was taken into custody for allegedly soliciting and accepting Rs 300,000 from a woman for a ruling in her favour in a civil action. The bail application of second suspect PC Mahinda Kithsiri was refused due to the lack of compelling reasons to grant bail.

The first suspect was granted bail on the condition of non-interference with witnesses. His passport was also impounded.

The complainant is Shamalie Jayaweera. Attorney-at-Law Ajith Pathirana with PC Hemantha Warnakulasuriya appeared for the suspect.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption Deputy Director General Ranjanie Seneviratne along with PS Chandrasiri appeared for the prosecution.
