A Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) on Rataviru Rekawarana Seva providing social welfare, essential services and empowering them economically, for those who have gone for foreign employment, was signed yesterday in the presence of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees. The MOU was signed by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, Sri Lanka Red Cross and The Finance Company to implement a project to provide facilities for those employed overseas and for their family members seeking foreign employment. With the Red Cross, a world reputed international organization entering into the MOU,Sri Lankans employed overseas will gain more recognition. Sri Lankans employed abroad will be afforded many opportunities and benefits, such as, providing social services, first aid etc. Around 1.6 million of Sri Lankans are currently employed overseas bringing in around 6.1 billion US dollars annually to the country, which is a significant contribution to the Sri Lankan economy. Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Chairman Amal Senadilankara, Sri Lanka Red Cross president Jagath Abeysinghe and The Finance Company Chairman Preethi Jayawardena entered into the MOU. Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa who presided over an awareness programme on the 2014 Deyata Kirula National Development Project held in Nikaweratiya on June 9 being welcomed on arrival at the venue by Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando.

Asitha Swarnajith Dias of Kalutara North returned to Sri Lanka after completing his M.Sc degree in Energy Efficiency Management with First Class Honours from the University
of Cienfuegos in Cuba. He was initially awarded with a fully paid scholarship from the Cuban government in 2006 for the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering. He was selected as the “Best International Student of the Year” in year 2011 and was awarded with another scholarship for his Masters Degree in Energy Efficiency Management from the same university.
