Somaweera Chandrasiri, Ayurvedic Drugs Corporation Chairman

Politician and trade union leader D D Somaweera Chandrasiri recently
assumed duties as the Sri Lanka Ayurvedic Drugs Corporation Chairman for
the third time with the approval of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Somaweera worked as the Transport Ministry Monitoring MP and Land
Development Corporation Chairman.
Sri Lanka Ayurvedic Drugs Corporation was incorporated in 1969 by the
government extraordinary gazette notification No. 14853/1 dated May 11,
1969 under the provision of State Industrial Corporation Act. No. 49 of
1957 as the pioneer of manufacturing and marketing of Ayurvedic Drugs to
government hospitals, ayurvedic physicians and private sector. It plays
a major role in the health sector in Sri Lanka.
Ayurvedic Drugs Corporation has functioned under 20 chairmen.
Chandrasiri is the 21st chairman of the corporation.
He became Sri Lanka Ayurvedic Drugs Corporation Chairman in 2007 and
since then had been appointed to the post three times.
During his period as the Chairman, he developed it as a profitable
venture. The Sri Lanka Ayurvedic Drugs Corporation had a profit around
Rs 70 million last year under the leadership of Chandrasiri.
He had developed of the ayurveda sector in Sri Lanka during the past
five years. He is making arrangements to win the international market
while providing modern technologies to the corporation which are
essential to produce high quality products including Aloe Vera shampoo,
Iramusu herbal tea and mix herbal tea. |
