Muslims have always lived in peace and harmony - A. H. M. Azwer,
MP
Muslims have never betrayed this country nor will they ever betray
their land of birth. This has been the distinct characteristic of the
Muslim community in Sri Lanka, so said Alhaj A.H.M. Azwer, MP, Member,
Parliament Council, speaking as Chief Guest at the Tamil Day Ceremony at
Thunduwa Muslim Maha Vidyalaya in the Galle District.
He also declared open the “A.H.M. Azwer Hajiar Pavilion” built at a
cost of Rs 500,000 through the MP’s Decentralized Budget allocation.
Azwer said right along history, the Muslims in this country were
given the proper political leadership in the past by great men like Sir
Mohamed Macan Markar, Dr T B Jayah, Dr M.C.M. Kaleel, Sir Razik Fareed,
Alhaj Badiudeen Mahmud, H.S. Ismail, M.S. Kariapper, M.A. Bakeer Markar
and others of that stature. There has been a recent development where
foreign agencies, even at diplomatic level visit various parts of the
country and try to indoctrinate leaders at provincial level. The
Government is being fed with information of this new conspiracy.
Recent developments in the Eastern Province has aroused the curiosity
of those in power. Muslims, in particular should guard themselves
against such anti - national forces.
It was after a 30 year conflict that President Mahinda Rajapaksa
redeemed the country of all evil forces and we should not fall prey to
such anti -national elements, trying to destabilize a Government
overwhelmingly elected by the franchise of the people.
“Muslims living in Sinhalese areas in the South have right along
earned the goodwill of the majority community and nothing should be done
to harm such harmony. He pointed out that in Tamil Nadu, the writers
contend that the Tamil language is slowly dying over there.
Contrary to this, the Tamil language is slowly and steadily
flourishing in Sri Lanka,” he said. “The Tamil language, culture and
religious performances are being well protected and developed in all
parts of the country. The Northern Spring is really blooming under the
Rajapaksa regime.
This should be seriously taken note of by the international Tamil
community and the Diaspora in particular,” he said.
“It is heartening to see that Muslim ladies and female students
adorning their Fardah and Hijab attending a Muslim school surrounded by
Sinhalese villages.
Muslims in foreign counties without believing the SMS messages
transmitted to them by unpatriotic persons in this country, spreading
false rumours for they are free to visit any part o the country and see
for themselves the gigantic economic development carried out by the
Government throughout the Island and the peaceful atmosphere created all
round like what the BJP leaders of India did recently and convinced
themselves of the truth without having recourse to disinformation spread
through various websites and blogs. Principal A.H.M. Shamsudeen, ,
Bentara Zonal Director of Education J.R. Rajapaksa, Mrs Madeena Kaleel
and several others also spoke at this meeting. Mr Azwer also presented
to the school library a set of books which included the Chinese
translation of Mahinda Chintana.
