Over 1,400 hit by bad weather

Monsoonal rains accompanied by cyclonic winds have affected 1,433 persons belonging to 557 families, the Disaster Management Centre reported. Thirty one deaths were reported with 29 injured. The Centre spokesman also said 31 persons went missing in the wake of the bad weather.

In addition, 2,296 houses are reported to have been damaged. Out of this, 101 houses were fully damaged while 2,185 houses were partially damaged. Four temporary shelters have been setup housing 24 families (107 persons). Kalutara, Colombo, Gampaha, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Kegalle, Ratnapura and Puttalam districts were affected by the bad weather.

Thirteen deaths were reported in the Galle district while 10, seven, one and four deaths were reported from Colombo, Kalutara, Ratnapura and Puttalam districts.
