President appoints committee to probe fishermen deaths
President Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed a Committee to probe the deaths
of fishermen in the wake of Friday’s cyclonic storm in which several
other fishermen also went missing.
President Rajapaksa directed Secretary to the President Lalith
Weeratunga to immediately take steps to appoint a Committee to examine
the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the fishermen and the
reasons as to why the affected persons were not informed of the
impending severe weather conditions to be able to take precautionary
measures.
The President requested that a report be submitted to him without
delay.
