LAUGFS launches clean drinking water CSR project in Ampara
The Laugfs Group has undertaken a project to deliver clean drinking
water for two schools in the Ampara District, by request of the Ministry
of Environment. The new undertaking, carried out through Laugfs Eco Sri,
would bring clean drinking water to Kudagala Vidyalaya and Henanigala
Vidyalaya in Dehiattakandiya respectively.

Some highlights from the CSR |
Consumption of ground water or water from streams in the area have
resulted in high levels of dental fluorosis and kidney disease among
school children as a result of high levels of contamination by
agrochemicals.
Through the project, Laugfs would put in place over-head tanks
connected to a piping system, including sinks and taps, within the
school premises. The system would be connected to the Municipal pipeline
which has already been laid within accessible distance of the schools.
The initiative by Laugfs is in keeping with the group's holistic
values of social and environmental responsibility for the benefit of Sri
Lanka.
A socially responsible corporate entity, Laugfs had previously
donated a full-fledged library to Nindagampalassa Vidyalaya,
Embilipitiya which included the cost of construction of the library
building, cost of all the books requested by the administration,
computer equipment and gifts to all students and staff of the school.
The group has also turned its CSR focus inwards in the form of
comprehensive employee welfare programmes in order to ensure a healthy
and satisfied workforce.
A highly diversified, home-grown conglomerate, Laugfs operates across
a variety of sectors and industries, including the manufacturing,
services, hospitality and power and energy sectors, in addition to its
well-known retail supermarket chain. |
