Girl ends life

Katunayake Police found the body of a 15- year-old girl hanging from a rafter at a house in Saranathissagama on Tuesday. Investigations revealed Harsha Madushani of Katunayake, a grade 9 student of a school in the same area had hung herself in a room at a house next to hers.

Suspects arrested with cannabis and heroin

STF officers attached to Suriyawewa and Peliyagoda and Welikada police on Wednesday arrested four suspects with 1.920 kilograms of cannabis and12.160 grams of heroin in their possession.

Two of them arrested with cannabis were remanded until June 17 on being produced before the Hambantota magistrate's court. The third suspect, arrested in Peliyagoda with 9.760 grams of heroin was produced before the Mahara magistrate's court. The fourth suspect was produced before Aluthkade no 4 magistrate's court.

Tractor ride ends in death

A man died and another was seriously injured when they fall off a tractor in Mannar on Wednesday. Abdul Lathif , 29, of Tharapuram died in the incident. The other was admitted to Mannar hospital.

They were traveling on the trailer of the tractor when they faced the mishap.

Indian fisherman in Navy net

Navy officers deployed in Talaimannar East seas yesterday arrested 24 Indian fishermen while they were fishing in Sri Lankan waters in five trawlers. They were handed to Police to be produced before the Mannar magistrate's court.
