There is no need for a Referendum to amend the
13th Amendment (13A) to remove the provision for all Provincial
Councils (PCs) having to consent to legislation on matters coming
within the Provincial List. A Referendum is not necessary – a two
thirds majority is sufficient, ‘as one province’s decision anyway
should not effect the entire country;

President marks 43 years since his entry to Parliament, today
President Mahinda Rajapaksa marks 43 years since
first entering Parliament today. He was the youngest member to be
elected to the then National State Assembly from the Beliatta
constituency from the United Front coalition which secured an

President opens refurbished SLFP HQ building today
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) headquarters
building renovated with modern facilities will be opened by
President Mahinda Rajapaksa today. An all night pirith chanting
ceremony will also be held with the participation of President
Rajapaksa to invoke blessings on the SLFP at the refurbished SLFP
headquarters.
