Rainbow in the night

You walk into wonderland. Wonderland is how Stein studio in Ratmalana looked on the night of May 31 when Maharajah’s held their star-lit hair show to launch ammonia free hair colour -REGAL ZERO. And of course it got even better, as a rainbow walked down the glitteringly pink-studded ramp.

Palma adds the finishing touches to a hairstyle

Models dressed in solid rainbow colours – violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red and even a dash of pink, sporting even more vividly coloured and styled hair, gave so much energy to the evening, as they literally bounced down the ramp. As was fitting to the hair colour being introduced into the market, the audience could not take their eyes off the hairstyles and the hair- colour that the models sported. The hair colour either complimented or contrasted the clothes, providing a stunning rainbow effect.

The highlight of the evening was top international stylist Italian Saverio Palma who came down especially for the launch. He spoke to the audience with an interpreter. Being an Italian he was indeed generous with his compliments to women and the best one was when he declared that he has seen absolutely no ugly women in Sri Lanka. It set the mood for the evening as the audience watched the performer, cut and style hair on the ramp with passion and abandon. He created five new hairstyles, each one vividly different from the other, accentuating the hair colour that had already been applied on the models’ hair.

The speed with which he cut, styled, blow dried, and sprayed, (in one instance he textured the hair whilst blow drying) giving himself ten minutes per style. Five new styles in fifty minutes! Remarkably, he had the rapt attention of the audience for the entire 50 minutes. With bated breath, each new creation was looked forward to. He surely was the maestro. Just towards the end as the audience started getting restless, he brought out his best creation of the evening – a cocktail hair-do from maddeningly straight hair.

His total immerse into his profession was clearly evident. The audience could feel his pulse as he used the scissors, the dryer, the thinner and the clips. His powers of concentration were remarkable and he held the audience with him as each new style brought out a whole range of ‘wows’. It was Saverio magic all the way.

The fashion maestro Saverio Palma is now the Technical and Creative Director of the BES Academy that gives us Regal Zero - a new hair colour from BES Beauty and Science from Milan.

This new product with a strong claim of zero ammonia and PPD zero formula is supposed to eliminate risks associated with allergic reactions. It is introduced to Sri Lanka by Worldwide Brands Limited, a subsidiary of The Capital Maharaja Organisation.

Young Sashi Rajamahendran Chief Operating Officer of The Capital Maharaja group pointed out – ‘a huge gap exists in the present hair colour industry as most of the hair colour that is available here in Sri Lanka has been hand carried in or is of dubious quality or is of unknown origins.’ Now he assures that their new product Regal Zero will be making waves in our little island filling the gaps that existed thus far. For many hair dressers present at the show, this was good news indeed.
