UN medals for Lankan contingent in Lebanon
The UN Medal awarding ceremony, headed by Lebanon-based Force
Commander Major General Paolo Serra, took place with the
participation of SLSR Colonel of the Regiment Major General
Boniface Perera as a guest of honour, representing the Army
Commander.

The customary UN Medal Parade, the prestigious military ceremony that
recognises the exemplary contribution by any specific contingent to
maintain law and order in Lebanon, saw Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR)
troops serving there, honoured by being awarded UN medals as their
period of service in Lebanon is nearing completion.
The fifth Sri Lankan contingent, deployed at Nakura-based UNIFIL
Headquarters in Lebanon for security roles comprise 10 officers and 140
of other ranks of the SLSR.
The recent UN Medal awarding ceremony, headed by Lebanon-based Force
Commander Major General Paolo Serra took place with the participation of
SLSR Colonel of the Regiment Major General Boniface Perera as a guest of
honour, representing the Army Commander.
Decorations, including a gateway pandal, symbolic of Sri Lankan
cultural feats and a traditional Pantheru dancing troupe of the Army
welcomed the visiting Force Commander and the SLSR Colonel of the
Regiment to the medal parade.
A Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour in keeping with military
traditions saluted the visiting Commanders.
Major General Serra during his interaction with the visiting SLSR
Colonel of the Regiment, extolled the services, rendered by the Sri
Lankan contingent in Lebanon and spoke highly of their professional
attainments and contribution to the UNIFIL project. Major General Serra
conveyed greetings and appreciative gestures of goodwill, sent by the UN
Secretary General to Major General Perera. |
