Hound Grero leads Police to murder suspect

A suspect wanted in connection with a robbery and a murder in
Walakada Road, Kosgodalla was apprehended due to the detection talents
of a mastiff named Grero of the Official Dogs Unit of Horana Police on
Sunday.
Police believe the suspect entered a house for robbery but was
confronted by the house owner who was murdered by the robber.
The 39-year-old victim was a resident of Kosgodalla. He was alone in
the house as the rest of the family was out Vesak sightseeing.
Grero who was brought to the scene by Constable Duminda of the
Official Dogs Unit of the Horana Police, had followed a trail picked up
from an item apparently left behind by the suspect, eventually leading
the Police to a house.
Grero’s trail ended at the house where the Police arrested the
suspect. Police also found a knife which was used to commit the murder
and a blood stained shirt. The 29-year-old suspect is a resident of
Kosgodella, Molkawa and a father of one. Investigations revealed that
the suspect robbed another nearby house after this murder. Police seized
a stock of jewellery and rubber sheets stolen by the suspect.
Investigations are continuing under the supervision of Kalutara SSP
Roshan Fernando, ASP Baduraliya, G A S Priyankara and OIC, Baduraliya,
Udaya Kumara.
