Japanese Coastguard in clean up operation:

Over 600 kgs 'garbage' collected at Nilaweli beach

Japanese Coastguard (JCG) personnel attached to the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) ships Suzunami and Kirisame participated in a beach cleaning campaign at Nilaweli beach.

The event was organised by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) with the assistance of Sri Lanka Navy's Eastern Naval Command.

A group of 35 Japanese Coastguard personnel and 40 personnel from the Sri Lanka Coastguard participated in this beach cleaning project.

The combined effort resulted in collecting over 600 kgs of waste and plastic from the Nilaweli beach.

Sri Lanka Coastguard Deputy Director General Commodore Ananda Guruge and officers stationed in the area were also present.
