The Chuda Manikkaya (Crest Gem) to be crowned atop the pinnacle of
the Mihintale ‘Sela Chetiya’ was brought to the Anuradhapura Jaya Sri
Maha Bodhi Maluwa to get the blessings of the sacred bodhi tree
yesterday. A large number of Buddhist priests and devotees were at the
Bodhi Maluwa premises to pay homage to the Chuda Manikkaya.
Mihintale Viharadhipathi Venerable Walawahengunuwewe Dhammarathana
Nayaka Thera who escorted the crest Gem told the Daily News that the
Chuda Manikkaya would be placed at the Mihintale Raja Maha Vihara
premises from today until June 20 for worshipping.
The Chuda Manikkaya amidst traditional Buddhist rituals will be
placed on the top of the sela chetiya on June 20, during the Poson
religious festive week.
The prelate said that the week long pirith chanting ceremony to
commemorate the historic event of crowning the Chuda Manikkaya on the
Sela Chetiya for the first time since its beginning in the ancient times
will commence on June 13.
