Vidyartha College, Kandy ran up another huge win when they beat
Moratu Vidyalaya by 124 points (7 goals, 15 tries) to nil in their
schools' under 20 division two segment B rugby tournament match played
at Piliyandala yesterday.
This was Vidyartha College's third century of points in three
matches.
Earlier they beat Asoka Vidyalaya 178-3 and Kegalu Vidyalaya 163-3.
They have now scored 465 points in 3 matches at an average of 155 points
per match which could be world record of sorts.
There were very few scrums and line outs and they failed to convert
15 of their tries as they were taken not by their regular place kickers
but mostly by the try scorers themselves.
If this trend continues Vidyartha College could score over 800 points
as they will be pitted against weak opponents except Zahira College,
Colombo.
In fairness to their opponents it must be stated that the presence of
Vidyartha College rugby team in this level of rugby is as a result of
their demotion at the end of last season.
They were all not prepared to face such a strong opponent who are
from the top division.
The try scorers for Vidyartha College are centre Dhanushka Talwatte
(5), fly half Ashan Bandara (4), scrum half Chamath Fernando (2), centre
Chathuranga Chandrasekera (1), winger Shamitha Salinda (2), centre C.J.
Abeyratne (1), full back Isuru Lakmal (3), centre Dilum Theeshana (1),
winger Priyankara Thilakaratne (1). Centre Dhanushka Talwatte goaled
three tries and fly half Ashan Bandara four tries.
This match was officiated by a lady referee Rukshani Ariyasena. |
