The 'I' element
Ven. Mahanuwara Sasanawasa Thera
Sakkhaya Ditti! (unchecked 'I' conceit). This is the main cause of
human miseries, which is looking for self-fulfillment in an anxious
troubled world. This is "I think, therefore I am."
The Buddha clearly expounded that a person could lead a
life of tranquility. Picture by Saman Sri Wedage |
These five words should be the most important five words to any Ariya
Puggala (Buddhist). The seminal principal of arising such a world is "I
think therefore I am." They should be the most important five words in
one's life, every second, every minute; every hour; every day; every
week; every month; every year; these words are one's passport to eternal
peace, joy, and blissfulness, which is not an extreme.
One can travel wherever he choose and he will never be alone, with
these five words, he creates a worth while foundation in Nirvana or
Nibbana, within his mind and heart, a world of light calm and order.
These five words separate a person from the ordinary worldling. They are
keys to greatness within himself which awaits, recognition. What a
peaceful world this would be if we didn't think. This means it is not
for the purpose of vain discussions as most did but in order to make our
life complete to its precepts and fundamental elements. We don't need to
think so much. Be in peace and joy now with a modest mind and always
remain it to be so.
Yet it does only to those who realize that every pleasure is a
prelude to a pain and sees the futility of material comfort. A person
with profane mind will not be able to realize that there is nothing in
this world to satisfy a man completely as it is a choice one has to make
in mind and action.
The Buddha clearly expounded that a person could lead a life of
tranquility if he gives up external world and meddles not with the
affairs of the external world.
He may keep his mind at ease and his thoughts impartial free from
emotions. |
