Sri Lanka University Games 2013:
Moratuwa University leads points table

Moratuwa University (UoM) tops the points table with 103 points while
former champions, Colombo University in second place with 87 points.
Peradeniya University was just a point behind them to secure the third
place in the events worked off so far at the Sri Lanka University Games
2013. University of Jaffna emerged football champions when they defeated
University of Moratuwa by 4-1 in the final worked off at Torrington
Sports Ministry grounds on Sunday. Jaffna led 3-0 at half time with
Jeevakumar (7th minute), S Japakar (25th minute) and B P S Desilan (45th
minute) scoring goals. After the break W V P R Feranando of UoM scored
their only goal.
S Yanroopan scored the fourth goal for the champions. University of
Colombo won the third place when they overcame Eastern University of Sri
Lanka by 2-0. G Midurzan and S N Jayaratne scored for the winners.
Meanwhile University of Colombo won the men's basketball championship
by defeating University of Kelaniya ( UOK ) by 73-60 in the final at the
Sugathadasa stadium on the same day.
In the women's final University of Sri Jayawardenapura also defeated
University of Kelaniya by 54-25 at the same venue. UOSJ also won the
men's third place by defeating UOM after a nail bitting game by 51-50.
The hosts, UOM lost to University of Colombo in the women's consolation
final by 33-30.
It was a celebrating day for University of Rajarata on Saturday when
they won the championship in the men's road race conducted from Dehiwala
to Moratuwa University grounds. Jayawardenepura University (J'pura) and
Sabaragamuwa University won the runner up and third places respectively.
P M G Sanjeewa of J'pura clocked 31:45 to finish the race first. His
team mate M B S L Priyankara finished second with a timing of 33:31. K
Sogi Usman of Sabaragamuwa University was just behind him to win the
third place and finished the event in 33:45.
The hosts made it their event in the rowing held at the Colombo
Rowing Club on the same day.
They won the overall championship while Colombo University (UoC)
emerged runner up. Moratuwa University won first places in all events
while UoC won the second places. ( A Scull, A Pair, A Four, B Scull B
Pair and B Four).
University of Moratuwa had other reasons to celebrate as they won the
Rugby championship by defeating University of Peradeniya by 23 ( 4
tries, 1 penalty ) to 17 ( 2 conversions , 1 penalty ) at Havelock
grounds. In the consolation final UoC overcame J'pura by 17 ( 1
conversions, 2 tries ) to 5 (1 try) at the same venue.
University of Peradeniya proved that they have the best lifters when
they emerged champions and also win the third place in the Weight
Lifting concluded at the UoM. University of Ruhuna emerged runner up.
UoM also collected the champions trophy for the men's carrom while UoC
had to satisfy with the runners up.
University of Ruhuna won the third place. In the women's category,
Rajarata University won all singles to emerge women's champions .
UoM emerged runners up and Peradeniya University won the third place. |
