Former Deputy Mayor of Colombo, Azath Salley was
arrested for inciting citizens to take to arms. In an interview to
Junior Vikatan magazine on April 24, 2013, Salley had said the Sri
Lankan Muslim community had no option but to take to arms. This

President to launch Ranaviru month
The annual National Ranaviru Commemoration Month
to honour the ‘war heroes’ will be launched tomorrow, following a
ceremony under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Ranaviru Seva Authority Chairperson Padma Wettewa will pin the first
Ranaviru flag on the President signaling the launch of the
month-long event.

CID nabs bank swindlers
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have
arrested six suspects including two women for allegedly swindling
more than Rs 37 million from a private bank using forged ATM cards.
The CID also seized 46 forged ATM cards used to withdraw the money
from the ATM. The CID led investigation following a complaint lodged
by the relevant bank on May 29 last year stating that Rs 32,871,000
had been withdrawn during a nine hour period on May 20, 2012 by
someone illegally duplicating some one else's data by feeding them
to ATM cards issued by some banks in France and Canada.

Fines on law breakers
Gampaha Additional Magistrate and District Judge
V H G S de Mel fined three accused who pleaded guilty to the charge
of possessing 10 milligrams of heroin each. The accused from
Kadawata were fined Rs 45,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 15,000.
