The national commemoration of World
Thalassaemia Day was held at Swarnapali Jathika
Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Anuradhapura on Saturday under the
patronage of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa. The ceremony
was organised by the Thalassaemia ward of the Anuradhapura
Teaching Hospital. Members of the Maha Sangha of the three
Nikhayas, North Central Province Governor Karunaratna
Divulgane, Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena, NCP Chief
Minister S M Ranjith Samarakoon, Mayor H P Somadasa,
specialist doctors, health directors and officials

Economic Development Minister Basil
Rajapaksa checks potatoes at the Divi Neguma Sathi Pola in
Kelaniya. The minister said the government is providing
every possible assistance to local potato farmers to boost
production to make the country self-sufficient in potatoes
by 2014. |
