The Navy ceremonially re-launched the Vada Tharakai - 11 passenger
ship from Kurikadduwan Jetty to Delft Island on May 1. The ship was
flagged off by Northern Naval Area Commander Rear Admiral Shirantha
Udawatte and Jaffna District Secretary S. Aruneinayam.
Addressing the gathering, the Jaffna District Secretary said the Vada
Tharaki – 11 passenger cruiser was relaunched for the convenience of
both local and foreign tourists visiting Delft Islands.
“This is a joint effort of the Sri Lanka Navy and the Road
Development Authority (RDA). Vada Tharakai – 11 will provide transport
to passengers from Kurukadduwan Jetty to Delft Island free of charge.
This is a passenger ship which is fully equipped with modern technology.
It has facilities to transport around 100 passengers,” Aruneinayam said.
He said residents of Delft Islands were inconvenienced following the
break down of Vada Tharaki -11. |
