Letter: Editorial and Comment
I happen to be a consistent reader of the Daily News, from my early
University days. My favourites sections in your papers are the Editorial
and the sports page. Here, I particularly like to read the ‘comment’
column written by the internationally reputed sports writer Elmo
Rodrigopulle.
The editorial provides interesting reading which gives one an
opportunity to educate one’s self in current affairs and to improve our
knowledge of the English Language.
In an era when excellent sports reports are rare, I fined that Elmo
Rodrigopulle’s column is outstanding. When he covers Sri Lankan matches
in foreign soil all important aspects are dealt with, so that the reader
is highly satisfied. He writes flawlessly with clarity and brevity so
that the reader is able to visualize what actually happened on the
field.
His column almost invariably refers to contemporary cricketing events
giving praise where it is due and constructively criticizing when
necessary.
All his ideas are fair and square. He also includes anecdotes and
stories with humane interest which are highly interesting to the average
reader.
Rodrigopulle, I congratulate you for your excellent writing. Well
done, keep it up. May you go from strength to strength in your
journalistic career.
