Couple arrested for theft

A young couple was taken into custody and charged by the Kurunegala Police in connection with an alleged theft of clothes valued at Rs. 20,000 from a textile shop in the Kurunegala town.

The suspects I.G. Sudharma Kumara (24) and his wife S.R. Dilhani Kumari (22) of Meerigama were produced before the Kurunegala Chief Magistrate Kavindya Nanayakkara who imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on each suspect.

In addition, the husband was sentenced to six months rigorous imprisonment suspended for five years.
