Awards for Environment Friendly Schools

Janadhipathi Vidyalaya, Matara won the All Island first place at the
'Best Environment Friendly School of the Year' competition organized by
the Green Forest Association for the fifth consecutive year at 'Navaragahala'
Royal College last month.
Holy Angels Girl's College, Kuliyapitiya and Udaranwala Vidyalaya,
Ratnapura won the second and third places respectively at the
competition respectively.Environment and Renewable Energy Minister Susil
Premajayantha, Technology, Research and Atomic Energy Minister Patali
Champika Ranawaka, environmentalists and intellectuals participated on
the occasion.
Fifteen schools were also awarded All Island Excellent Awards, while
nine schools from each Province were awarded Provincial Awards.
The winners were selected among 1,500 schools based on the criteria,
including the beautification of the school premises, cultivations,
creative constructions, progress of the education level of the students,
neatness and discipline. Colourful dancing items were performed by
school students. Green Forest Association Executive Director Harindra
Serasinghe pointed out the importance of developing an environment
friendly background in schools.
