No escaping camouflage fashion

Fashion is a means of communication and attraction. It plays an influential role in each person's life. Today it is a vastly expanding industry across the world. It is uniquely presented by different cultures in different forms.

Taking a novel approach to the Sri Lankan fashion industry an exclusive fashion show titled Camouflage: Fashion's Front line, organized by Viru Daru in partnership with the Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT) will be held on 29 April at Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre at 7 pm. The event is supported by the Sri Lanka Army Seva Vanitha branch.

The garments showcased at the event will be a collection born out of young talents and creativity. It will exhibit the skills of upcoming design personalities. The fashion show is intended to raise funds for the Viru Daru organization which is set up to provide a better future for the children of war heroes. The main focus of the organization is the welfare of the children of fallen soldiers. All the funds go towards providing scholarships to these children for their primary, secondary and tertiary education.

The collection consists of unique silhouettes and innovative ideas of members of Viru Daru. The designs are then developed by Lift designers and inculcated into fabrics. There are three segments in the show in which display the scenic beauty of the country based on themes like the Northern Province, forests, beaches, landscapes and the hill country. The collection of 18 pieces comprise artwork developments in fabric metamorphosis, camouflage print, picturesque environment and heritage of the North. Vibrant colours: red, blue, green and yellow are highlighted in the clothing.

An workshop was held at Seva Vanitha Unit recently where children of Viru Daru created many art works under the theme, Camouflage. Those creative art works inspired the LIFT student designers to do the designs which comprise the Northern Province collection.

The show will unfurl with a special presentation of backdrops consisting of specially designed videos on large video walls. The audience will experience the beauty of the island with natural scenic backgrounds for each collection. This is a very unique concept brought to the fore by LIFT.

Children unfurl their ideas at the workshop

It carries out major projects such as, The Viru Daru Stride - a walk, fashion shows, plays and cultural events, workshops etc to raise funds.
