Prisoner escapes during shramadana

An inmate of the Bogambara Prison escaped from the custody of prison guards when a team of prison inmates including him, were taken for a shramadana campaign at Hantana yesterday.

The escapee who is also a member of the Prison’s Kandyan dancing ensemble is a resident of Awissawella. He was serving a two year prison term in connection with a robbery and was due to be released next year, a prison spokesman said.
