Woman arrested with statues
A woman in Track C, Padavi Parakkramapura arrested with two
archaeologically significant steel statues portraying dancers was
remanded until April 11 when produced in Kebithigollewa magistrate
court. The arrest was made when Padaviya Police raided the woman's house
after receiving several complaints stating that the alleged woman who
lived in a rented house had swindled money from several villagers on the
pretext of finding jobs abroad. The 7 inch tall two iron statues were
found hidden in a bag. Further investigations continue.
Two held with illicit liquor
Two suspects were arrested by Welikada Police with illegally brewed
30 barrels of illicit liquor near the Diyawanna Oya in Kotuwegoda on
Sunday afternoon. The Police also seized implements including copper
wire and gas cookers. They were produced in Aluthkade no 4 magistrate
court.
Hakka Patas injures boys
Two boys aged 15 and 18 were seriously injured when a Hakka Patas
trap hidden in a small box they found in a backyard of a house where
they were playing, suddenly exploded when they tried to meddle with the
explosive. The 18-year-old boy was transferred to Peradeniya hospital
while the other is being treated at Mawanella hospital. Investigations
revealed that they had opened the explosive container unaware of its
danger. Mawanella Police arrested a suspect in connection with the
incident. Further investigations continue.
Suspects arrested
Weeraketiya Police on Sunday arrested two suspects wanted in
connection with a burglary carried out in Omalpe where they snatched Rs
12,000, gold jewelery worth more than Rs 100,000 and five mobile phones
at gun point after forcibly entering a house. Police seized a locally
made shot gun and bullets and part of the robbed items. Receipts
obtained after pawning part of the stolen jewelery and a motorbike used
in the crime are among the goods seized.
The suspects were produced in Walasmulla magistrate court yesterday. |
