Alleged assault on Major: Malaka, six others discharged

Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Gihan Pilapitiya yesterday discharged Malaka Silva, son of Minister Mervyn Silva and six others, charged in connection with assaulting a major at a Five Star Hotel in Colombo.

Inspector Nalaka Gunasekera who appeared with Sergeant Jayasekera of the Slave Island Police submitted a report from the Attorney General's Department and said investigations revealed that the suspects were not involved in the attack on the Major.

Judge Pilapitiya discharged Malaka Silva, Danushka Wijeratne, Nalinda Janaka, Nilu Arvinda, Suresh Pushpakumara, Sarath Upali and Sathyapali Ekanayake.

President's Counsel Jayantha Weerasinghe appeared for Malaka Silva.
