Treasure hunters arrested with human sacrifice

Eppawala Police arrested 12 suspects planning to hunt for artefacts in an archaeologically significant location in Pothanegama and rescued a four-year-old girl on Tuesday.

The suspects had brought the girl as human sacrifice with the intention of obtaining a treasure, the Police said.

The Police also took into custody an oxygen cylinder, two oxygen guns, 14 polysacks and other implements. The girl was handed over to the Jayanthi Children’s home.

The suspects produced before Tambuttegama Magistrate’s Court were remanded.
