Ruling party members and opposition members of the Anuradhapura Urban Council are working as a team for the benefit of the Anuradhapura city population exceeding 120,000. Each member is granted Rs 500,000 to spend for welfare activities, Anuradhapura Mayor H P Somadasa said at a media conference at the Urban Council Auditorium on Tuesday.

He said taxes valued at Rs 35 million is expected due to new tax reforms. Somadasa said in view of the new year festive season, a week long new year night bazaar will be held from April 6. Productions of differently-abled war heroes and Samurdhi recipients will be marketed at bazaar, the mayor said.

He said the Anuradhapura city traders union ,North Central Provincial Council, Anuradhapura Chamber of commerce join hands with the Anuradhapura Urban Council in organizing the programme.
