China help for development activities
China will extend its fullest support for development activities in
Sri Lanka, Deputy Governor of the Yunnan State in China Ding Shaoxiang
said. He said China would volunteer to assist in activities such as road
development, tourism, small scale hydro power projects and other
development activities.
During a three day official visit to Sri Lanka, Ding Shaoxiang who
met Prime Minister D M Jayaratne at Visumpaya along with 15 other
delegates, said plans are on to increase Sri Lanka’s representation at
the Trade and Economic Exhibition in
Kunming in Yunnan.
“Sri Lankan tea, rubber and coconuts being the main export crops and
gems and other material will be promoted at this exhibition,” he told
the Prime Minister.
Shaoxiang said Yunnan province officials will also get involved in
the Moragahakanda power station project in Gampola town.
Prime Minister Jayaratne said he was pleased that the Chinese envoys
visited Sri Lanka.
The Premier said China’s assistance to Sri Lanka had been forthcoming
in many instances in the present and the past.
“The support of our government under the leadership of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa is always ensured for the Chinese language teaching
programme to be implemented by China in Sri Lanka,” he said.
