Two drown

The Rangala Navy and the Modara Police have commenced a search operation to find the body of a 16-year-old boy who drowned at Lellawa beach, Modara while bathing in the sea with friends.

The victim was identified as M Suweib of Welikada, Colombo 15.

Meanwhile, Mahiyangana Police have commenced a search operation to find the body of a man, S K Sudesh Geethapriya of Hunupitiya, Wattala who drowned in Mahaweli Ganga while bathing near Mahaweli Bridge on the same day.


Woman hit by train

A 26-year-old woman was killed near Katugoda railway station in Galle after she was hit by a train plying from Matara to Colombo on Sunday.

Initial investigations revealed that K R Sandamali of Annasigala, Akuressa was killed while crossing the rail track.


Suspect nabbed before the crime

Acting on a tip-off, the Chilaw division crime investigation branch nabbed a suspect with an unlicensed revolver and a T56 bullet in his possession near a church in Chilaw.

Police say the suspect, a resident of Deduru Oya, was planning to carry out a crime using the weapon.

Investigations continue.


Boy found, kidnappers arrested

The Pussellawa Police on Sunday rescued a five-year-old boy kidnapped from his home and arrested two suspect involved in the crime.

The main suspect had entered a house in Mawela, Maswela in Pussellawa on Saturday night and kidnapped a five-year-old boy by spraying chilli powder on his mother's face.

The Pussellwawa Police carried immediate investigations and arrested the main suspect in Ketabulawa and found the boy detained at a home in the same area.

The suspects were produced before the Navwalapitiya magistrate court.

The rescued boy has been admitted to Pussellawa hospital.

Investigations continue.


Father's shot gun kills son

An 11-year-old boy accidentally killed himself when he attempted to operate his father's shot gun at home in Ihalagama, Mihintalaya on Sunday morning.

Police said the victim, Dinuth Tharindu Senaviratne was shot while his parents were away from home. The licensed gun issued to farmers had accidentally triggered when the boy tried to meddle with it.

The Mihintalaya Police are investigating.


Boy knocked down by lorry

A four-year-old boy was killed after being knocked down by a lorry driven by a 16-year-old youth in Ariyampathi, Kaththankudi on Sunday night.

Police investigations revealed that the suspect who cleaned the lorry after the owner left it at his home had started the vehicle when suddenly it accelerated knocking down the child, a neighbour who was standing a few metres away said.

The Kaththankudi Police arrested the 16-year-old youth. Investigations continue.
