Strengthening peace, harmony, responsibility of all - Minister
Nadira Gunatilleke
Sri Lanka does not need another conflict after suffering for more
than 30 years by a brutal terrorist war. Today, we all have the fortune
of living in peace and harmony, SLFP General Secretary and Health
Minister Maithripala Sirisena said.
Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena opens the official
website of the Borella Shri Jayawardhanarama Dhamma school
while Viharadhipathi Ven. Devahandiye Shri Pannasekara and
the Head Master Ven. Godamunne Lankananda Thera look on. |
Addressing a ceremony held in Colombo recently, Minister Sirisena
said it is obvious that certain persons and groups are now trying to fan
the flames of religious and ethnic violence in society, to achieve their
evil objectives.
“This is a Buddhist country. Therefore, Buddhists need to give
leadership in maintaining peace and harmony in the country and to
strengthen friendship between various religions and communities.
Minister Sirisena pointed out that there is a visible decline in
people’s health and ethics, morals etc.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa made significant changes in Dhamma school
education to build a better society through Dhamma school education. But
unfortunately, as small country, Sri Lanka cannot shut its door to
various cultural and social influences from foreign countries. The
Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and other communities have been living as one
from time immemorial.
“The Internet and mobile phones have totally destroyed our social
values, ethics and morals. Before the arrival of those modern high tech
gadgets, Sri Lankan society was well disciplined, cultured and respected
social ethics and morals, Minister Sirisena stressed. |
