The annual senior school Science Fair of Asian International School (AIS),
organised by the Science Union, was held recently. The aim of this event
was to get students to apply what they had learned in the class rooms to
their own creative projects. This allowed the students to get first hand
experience in practical work, think out of the box and possibly learn a
bit more through the projects.
After the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, the Principal of the
school, Priyanthi Seneviratne, declared the Science Fair open. The
exhibits were judged by the teachers based on knowledge, creativity,
originality, teamwork and presentation. The judges were clearly
surprised upon seeing that some students from Form II and III had
researched and learnt about facts that would be normally taught in an
A-Level class. Projects ranged from static electricity to astronomy to
the digestive system and chemical reactions.
Towards the end of the day, a science quiz was also held for the
upper school students, where both their foundations and more advanced
ideas of science were put to the test.
The Science Union of AIS aims to create a deep sense of passion,
curiosity and understanding of science within students.
