LAHES makes mark in Pharmacy Training

The participants and faculty with the management of LAUGFS Supermarkets and LAHES

As a truly caring employer that LAUGFS is known to be, LAUGFS Supermarkets stepped forward to provide a one-year training programme for pharmacy assistants attached to the LAUGFS Supermarket chain.

The training programme was conducted by LAHES, the education company of LAUGFS Group. The programme covered Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Drug detailing, English, Presentation Skills, Customer Orientation Skills and IT. During the one-year programme, the students who were newcomers to the field, were developed and exposed to best practices in Pharmacy and today, they have emerged as confident, professionals in the field. They are now ready to face the Pharmacists external examination conducted by the Sri Lankan Medical Council to become qualified pharmacists.

LAUGFS Supermarkets continuously look at ways in which they could exceed customers' expectations by delivering a superior service. LAUGFS was the first to introduce the 24-hour retail concept; the first to jointly operate with a fuel retail outlet and also the first to introduce a 24-hour pharmacy. With the chain expanding at a rapid pace, reaching the remote areas of the country, the service of the supermarkets would be consistent and of high standards.

"We are thankful to LAHES for introducing a comprehensive programme that not only provided our trainees with the essential theoretical knowledge, but also with customer servicing skills, IT and English, which have added a significant value to the participants and in turn to our valued customers," stated Ravi Dahanayake, Director/Chief Executive Officer, LAUGFS Supermarkets.

The LAHES Pharmacy course will be extended to the general public in the near future, in which anyone who has done his/her Advanced Level examination in the Science or Maths stream and has obtained a minimum of three passes, including a pass in Chemistry and a pass in English in the Ordinary Level exams, could apply for the course. What is unique about the programme is that, at the successful completion of the course, employment is guaranteed at LAUGFS.
