Malaysian based DNC Asiatic Holdings Sdn Bhd, a motorcycle
manufacturer is planning to make a substantial amount of investment to
build the Sri Lankan market as its second hub for future expansion in
view of the huge development potential of the country. The company sees
a significant increase in sales and is planning to sell 15,000 to 20,000
motorcycles this year in Sri Lanka.
The Malaysia-China joint venture firm has sold approximately 2,000
units last year in Sri Lanka and company expanded its presence in Sri
Lanka two years ago, foreign media reports indicated. Hu Ying, the
Executive Director of the DNC Asiatic said that the company made a
comprehensive study on Sri Lankan market particularly about customers’
preferences, competitors and riding habits of the end-users.
Hu said that Sri Lankans are more concerned about fuel efficiency due
to high cost of petrol in the country. In 2012, around 300,000
motorcycles of all types were sold, which was a significant improvement
from some 135,000 motorcycles in 2009.
