Two men who snatched gold necklaces from unsuspecting women while
riding on a motorcycle in broad daylight were arrested by Chilaw Police.
Police said the two are residents of Yogiana in Dankotuwa.
The attempt by the men to snatch necklaces of two women were foiled
and they had fled, leaving the loot and the motorcycle.
The Police later recovered a mobile phone used by a suspect and
traced the other suspect residing in a rented house in Mahana. The
second suspect was taken into custody at Yogiana, Dankotuwa, following
information obtained by the first suspect. On interrogation, the
suspects had divulged that they had robbed the motorcycle from
Kurunegala.
The two men admitted that they had committed eight similar robberies
in Negombo, Dankotuwa and Koswatta. Investigations revealed the robbed
necklaces were pawned or sold to jewellery shops.
The men were handed over to Koswatta Police along with the loot. |
