PROSTITUTING LAW FOR EELAM
Little self-seeking self-aggrandizing side shows do
not matter in the larger scheme of things when a country is
coming out of long years of debilitating strife. But seditious,
subversive events that seek to perpetuate elite hegemony over
the people’s will, have to be exposed for the pathetic
pantomimes they in reality are.
The Bar Association of Sri Lanka, so called, invited an
imposter for something called the ‘convocation’ and one speaker
during the proceedings called her the Chief Justice of the
country, thereby courting contempt of court. The same people,
PCs a very small number of them, at the same time, do not have
any problem genuflecting before the same Supreme Court headed by
the legitimate Chief Justice Mohan Peiris, because before
everything else comes how much they can fleece from the pockets
of the poor people of this country. What a bunch of hypocrites.
A former Supreme Court Judge Vigneshwaran spoke on behalf of
this imposter and some of her cheer-squad. He spouted legalese,
which confirmed just one thing, which is that he will say
anything to advance the thinly veiled pro-Tiger cause. This
moron was so ludicrous as to in fact compare a LTTE Kangaroo
court to the Parliament of Sri Lanka during his address.
This is seditious, this claim -- in content, and intent.
Vigneshwaran states that until a fuller Bench overturns the
Supreme Court and Appeal Court orders made earlier with regard
to the PSC, these orders stand -- ignoring the fact that
Parliament on more than one occasion under different Speakers
has made it clear that no writs can be passed to curtail its
powers.
Nowhere in the world has a Court of Appeal purported to pass
a writ on Parliament, but yet this certifiable moron says
somebody other than the appointed Chief Justice of the country
before whom all these lawyers at the head table genuflect anyway
- is the Chief Justice of this country.
If Vigneshwaran wants to participate in a political pantomime
with political has-beens who fantasize about coming to power, or
coming back to power, at least he should save the people the
sermon about the Judiciary being separate from the Legislature,
and the Judiciary having to be independent of the Legislature!
Some independence this, that an ex-judge seeks, in hitching
the judiciary to the wagon of a partisan political campaign
headed by a former President.
There is no need to labour the point, but if the former Chief
Justice continued to be in office, her vendetta against the
state that became obvious except to those who refused to see,
would have certainly unhinged the democracy that Vigneshwaran
pays so much lip service to, and demolished Rule of Law along
with it.
She was legally mandated by the same Supreme Court that
Vigneshwaran implies is sacrosanct, to refrain making any
judgements that concern the issue of devolution of power, and
yet she did so contravening this order.
This leader writer has no problem in saying that such
contemptuous conduct which is contemptuous of the very court
that Vigneshwaran pretends is his Temple of Justice, was aimed
at nothing but advancing the Eelam project.
This is why today the pro diaspora anti Sri Lankan elements
in Geneva and the hegemonic powers that want to grant Eelam
without firing one shot, are the most vociferous about the
recent impeachment of Shirani Bandaranayake.
Vigneshwaran talks as if he is the innocent knave who does
not know anything about all of this when he does – only too well
-- and worse, he talks as if the rest of us would be naive
enough not to understand the fact that he knowingly advances the
Eelam project, couched in his innocuous sounding pro-Rule of Law
rhetoric.
In any other country they would have given short shrift to
these buffoonish loutish bombastic enemies of the people, but we
in this country are tolerant. Thankfully, a majority Buddhist
country forgives that which is the most unforgivable.
That does not mean that humbugs such as Vigneshwaran and his
cohorts will not be exposed.
They will be. By the time the last word is written on this
comment, Vigneshwaran, figuratively speaking of course, would
not have a leg to stand on anyway. |
