Raux Brothers-an epitome of taste

Raux Brothers

There is a big difference between the average customer and the forte customer, where distinguished tastes and partiality towards products with special attributes play an almost colossal role in today’s day and age. One aspect in today’s culture, when it involves changing global trends, fashion and style orders that keep innovating itself almost everyday is that people tend to become more aware of that subject and gives them that element of revelation, both quality-wise and value-wise.

With the Srilankan economy witnessing a zenith in this period, one company that sees innovation, creativity, quality and class as core features, is the delicately splendid Raux Brothers which initially started as an Antiques store and is today, a major furniture manufacturing and sourcing company in Sri Lanka. Established in 1959, the company proudly stands on nearly 54 years of recognition that was achieved through exquisite creations and quality, hand-made designs. Raux Brothers is being managed by Graham and Kalani Raux.

By applying modern and contemporary ideas merged with classical creations through conformity with clients and designers, the company has specialized itself into a manufacturing and sourcing entity and has encompassed itself as a fully fledged homely inspired store. Raux Brothers units range from heritage styles to contemporary and the main focus now is to establish itself as an internationally recognized brand.

“We offer the market with home related products, from luxurious hand woven rugs, woven baskets and chandeliers to glassware, lanterns, chests and table lamps and hand-made furniture such as chairs, tables, cabinets and outdoor garden furniture that are treated to be conducive to sun and rain. Our products embody every aspect of the modern lifestyle and our ever evolving product ranges carry the epitome of good taste, class and quality, mixed with a colonial touch in our heritage inspired creations,” Managing Director, Kalani Raux said.

Raw materials for producing the furniture is locally sourced and encompass wood from plantation and recycled timbers, mahogany and teak where as most of the fabric is good quality, imported material from the Far East.

Raux Brothers cater to a niche clientele as well as the middle class public and they aspire to reach out to discerning clients by also offering the flexibility of hand-crafted, custom-made furniture. The company handles projects for hotels, resorts, boutique hotels, private residences, restaurants and plantation bungalows as well as undertaking the export of their goods and services to Maldives as well as concentrating on supplying to locals.

The company comprises of three lifestyle specialty stores that are located at tactical locations in Colombo, with its flagship store located at Bullers Road, a specialty store showcasing the “Heritage” inspired gallery at De Fonseka Road and “Elements” at Duplication Road.

Furniture that emanates class.

The Ideation Hub, or the workshop where the products are designed, interpreted and created, is situated in Piliyandala and together, these make up the compiled essence of the company’s central entities; Heritage, Outdoor, Masters and Elements, thus compiling to HOME.

From its inception, the company initially specialized in antiques and there still is a wide vintage collection available at Raux Brothers that range from brass animals, statuettes, bells, teak chests, carved figures and cutlery. In todays context, Raux Brothers pertain towards applying hand-made methods as opposed to mass production. There is also an assortment of imported furniture added to its growing collection. “We renew our collections constantly and develop our own models by sizing it, sketching it and then work on it. We apply varied textures and produce designs and items with different finishes, thus providing our clients and customers with a wide array to choose from. Likewise, Raux Brothers offers classic and period creations with a broad based collection in our specialty stores rather than displaying it all in one big store,” Raux added.

The next step in Raux’s agenda is an element of surprise, with new and innovative ideas that will change around the corner. Raux Brothers will look to expand in future and aim to venture into more populous areas and to main cities in the country.
