Sunshine facilitates Cataract Surgery at Govt Hospitals

SBL, a member of Sunshine Holdings PLC recently donated 250 Intra-ocular lenses and consumables to the Ministry of Health, towards the Governments Vision 2020 programme. The donation which was made through the Ministry of Health, is part of a larger plan by SBL to facilitate a number of free Cataract surgeries in the future.

With a history of over 45 years in the pharmaceutical and supply of medical equipment to the Sri Lankan healthcare industry, SBL has established itself as a strong market leader in the field.

The lenses were officially handed over to Dr. P G Mahipala, Director General of Health Services and the National focal point for Vision 2020 Secretariat, at the Ministry of Health earlier this month. The first batch of eye surgeries using these lenses were performed by Dr. Chaya Samarasinghe at the Dikoya Base Hospital, Hatton.

The company expects the rest of the lenses to be utilized in batches at various hospitals in different parts of the country.
