Man drowns while sea bathing

A man drowned while bathing in the sea at Wellawatte beach on Tuesday evening.

Thirty eight-year-old S Balachandran of Colombo 6, was brought to Kalubowila hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jumbo attack kills 80-year-old

An 80-year-old person died when he was attacked by an elephant at a ferry in Bundala sanctuary around 6.30 am on Tuesday.

The deceased was D S H Peter de Silva, a resident of Weligatta.

Youth netted with grenade

The Karandeniya Police arrested a 17-year-old with a live hand grenade while he was riding a motorcycle at Egodawela.

The suspect was sent to protective custody when produced before the Balapitiya magistrate.
