Trinity warms up for big clash against Antonians
S M Jiffrey Abdeen Kandy Sports Corr
Trinity College, Kandy, warmed up for this week’s limited over clash
against their traditional rivals St Anthony’s College with a good five
wicket win over Isipathana College in their Lemonade Trophy limited over
match played at the Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy on Wednesday.
Match winner for the Trinitians was their Vice Captain Jayatunga who
scored a fine 66 not out with 10 fours facing 87 balls.
His fine knock propped up the middle order batting at a time the
Pathanians were trying to come back into the game. Rajitha Jayatunga’s
fine form with the bat will help Trinitians to go into the limited over
with a lot of confidence.
When Isipathana College batted they were up against some good spin
bowling. Raveen Sayers took 5 for 34 and his figures read 10-1-5-34. In
fact the Pathanians were well off at one stage with the scoreboard
reading 64 for 1 but with the introduction of spinners Dinuk
Wickramanayake 2 for 16, Charith Sudaraka 2 for 25 and Raveen Sayers the
brakes were applied on the scoring and wickets fell.
Three wickets fell at 64 and later it was 79 for 6 and this stumped
further to 90 for 8 before a recovery of sorts was made through the tail
enders.
Isipathana College 146 all out in 48.5 overs (Salinda Perera 25,
Methees Ranadiva 17, Malik Rasanjith 34, Madeesha Dissanayake 18, Dinuk
Wickramanayake 2 for 16, Charith Sudaraka 2 for 28, Raveen Sayers 5 for
34).
Trinity College 150 for 5 in 32.3 overs (Bhaghya Palihawadana 12,
Lakshitha Dassanayake 17, Rajitha Jayatunga 66 not out Dinuk
Wickramanayake 21).
