Old Dharmapalians win Olcott Trophy in UAE

Dharmapala College Old Boys bagged the sixth Col. Henry Steel Olcott
Memorial Trophy beating Maliyadeva Old Boys in the inter-school Old
Boys’ cricket tournament final worked off at the Ajman Cricket Council
ground in the United Arab Emirates recently.
The event has become a permanent fixture in the local cricket
calendar in the United Arab Emirates. Old boys of eight Olcott schools;
Ananda, Dharmapala – Pannipitiya, Dharmasoka - Ambalangoda, Dharnaraja -
Kandy, Mahinda -Galle, Nalanda, Maliyadewa - Kurunegala, and Rahula –
Matara living in the United Arab Emirates conducted the event for the
consecutive sixth year.
The whole day action packed colorful event was participated by many
cricket loving Sri Lankans, Old Boys of eight schools and their families
living in the UAE. The friendly cricket match among Old Boys’ children
has been an exciting event of the day.
Maliyadewa and Dharmapala battled it out in the Trophy finals while
Ananda and Dharmaraja played for the Plate championship final.
In a close encounter, Dharmapala Old Boys captained by Ravindra
Gunarathna beat Maliyadewa in the final and walked away with the Olcott
Memorial Trophy 2013 for the first time.
Dushantha Widanapathirana of Dharmapala was adjudged Man of the Match
in Trophy category. Ananda Old Boys team guided by Prasanna Samarasinghe
defeated Dharmaraja to become the Plate Champions and Chandana
Thilakaratne of Ananda was adjudged Man of the Match.
