Moves to eradicate dengue

Action is being taken to control the spread of dengue in Akkraipattu,
said Medical Officer of Health, Akkaraipattu Dr. I. L. Siddeeque. Seven
patients in January and 13 patients in February were identified to be
affected by dengue.

Following this, programmes are being carried out to eradicate dengue
in all Grama Niladari Divisions.
Measures are taken to make arrangements to clean mosquito breeding
areas. The people were made aware of dengue over the loudspeaker and
leaflets were distributed among the public to control the spread of
dengue.
Environmental pollution which helps spread dengue was identified and
action was taken to clean the environment.
Residents who have mosquito breeding locations were identified and
were warned to clean their premises. Uncleared garbage for a long time
is another cause of the spread of dengue fever, Siddeeque said.
Residents were warned that legal action will be taken against
offenders.
In areas where there were heavy rains and floods, drinking water had
got polluted, he said.
The Medical Officer of Health, Akkraipattu Divisions took action to
issue chlorine powder to be mixed with drinking water.
