Following acid attack:

NCP Ayurveda Comm. loses vision on both eyes

North Central Province Ayurveda Commissioner Kumara Alwis who is warded at the Colombo Eye Hospital for injuries sustained in an acid attack said he had lost vision in both eyes and may have to go abroad for treatment according to medical advice.

Alwis said Consultant Doctor Caharith Fonseka who is treating him had suggested that he seek treatment abroad since lenses in both eyes had been burnt and nerves connected to the eyes had been destroyed. He also alleged that certain parts of the statement made by the main suspect held in connection with the acid attack were false.

Alwis said the suspects wife had been transferred to the Gampaha Ayurveda Hospital before he (Alwis) assumed duties as commissioner. The transfer was made in connection with a promotion granted her.
